just tried the 1800... no good

I'm quite happy with this overclock though. I just have to be sure that my system will last as long as expected  ;D

one last thing to clear up Nick

on a x64 bit operating system (XP), do I need to have this edit done for 4+ gb ram?

No problem

Andy after a bit of a break in period you may want to remove the 120 and reseat it. At the same time when you remove it try to keep it steady as it is unscrewed from the 4 mounts and pull it strait up so you can observe any marks on the proc left by the heatsink and the thermal compound.

Your powers of observation will have to kick in but look to see if it seems like the heatsink was sitting flush on the slug. If it looks like there is a high or low spot that may explain higher temps

Now, I do not want you to do anything to the HS or the proc because that will void the warranty.. (like overclocking doesn't

hello Nick,

as you know, I'm in south FL and the outside temps now are high enough.. ambient temps in the house are about 70-72 fahrenheit so that does help to keep it cool a little, but in the summer time the temps will shoot up and the processor might get a little hotter. I'm very worried about that. I will take your advice (and the risk) on flattening those surfaces for better contact and hopefully that will lower my temps for the summer. I will go ahead and wait a month and take it apart again and work on that project. thanks for that advice

as for the x64 OS, do I need that page file edit or am I to leave that default as it's a x64 OS and can already use all 6GB of the mem? I did it already because it's on your OS setup guide, but I just want to make sure about this as I want that memory to be working as good as possible

thanks,

Andy

Page file?

I just want to make sure we are on the same page... you are talking about the 3072-3072 static page file setting, correct?

Yes, you should do that just to be sure any program you may install that might complain of the page file not existing does not give you grief. Adobe Acrobat Professional was known for doing that hoever I do not know if they changed the program recently to stop that.

With 6GB of memory and a 64bit OS as long as you do not have any software that would complain about the page file being too small (even though the program would never use it) you CAN reduce that to a minimum size. Windows will tell you what that minimum should be in the settings for the page file

and set the system for a MINIMAL MEMORY DUMP in the event of a crash:

That will allow you to still get blue screens and dump reports in the event of a crash
