I'm not too familiar with the card in question, does it have any jumpers on it?

...nope...

...just Vest and Pants... ;)...!

When you have plugged the card in and switched on the computer, it should have said: "New Hardware found"...

If it didn't, then there is a problem with the Card itself!

You say that you just bought the Card new, but as that card is almost 10 years old, and has been out of production for many years, is there a chance that it is a old card that was faulty?.... :o...!

Paul... 8-)...!

My old Creative Soundblaster Live! 1024 (new in 1998) works a dream with the latest Win XP Drivers mentioned previously!
(It has a Game-port Socket on the rear which supplies MIDI Data to and from all my Music Keyboards!).
Win 8.1 64-bit. DX11. Advent Tower. Intel i7-3770 3.9 GHz 8-core. 8 GB System RAM. AMD Radeon HD 7700 1GB RAM. DVD ROM. 2 Terra Byte SATA Hard Drive. Philips 17" LCD Monitor. Saitek Cyborg X Fly-5 Joystick. ...and a Briggs and Stratton Petrol Lawn Mower.

Either that or the PCI slots on the motherboard are inactive or defective. Do you have any other PCI cards you could try, to see if they get picked up as new hardware?

Good point...;)..!

May be an idea to Install the Motherboard Drivers again, which should/may sort out any possible problems there?... ::)...!

Have you uninstalled your onboard sound drivers? Whilst disabling onboard sound via the BIOS usually works, sometimes a total removal of the old drivers is necessary.

When i bought my pc (it's a really cheap one) it had no onboard sound, that's why i bought a sound card...
I already disabeled onboard sound in BIOS though..

Thanks anyway  ;)

We've been down this route before!.... :o...!

...when you plugged the Card into your PCI slot, and then switched on the computer, did it come up with the magic words........"New Hardware Found"....?

If it didn't, then I suspect that you have just purchased a dead/stuffed/faulty Sound Card!

Time to try another Sound Card?...(Suitable for your present Operating System!)...::)...?
