What keystrokes do I make to see how fast my machine is running? I'm intrigued...

Hello, Rooters...!

Try this. It will tell you everything you need to know about the love of your life/your computer....

Paul... ;D...!

P.S.....

Uh-oh...

Time for a good cleaning and/or a new CPU cooler.

Ta, Bjorn....I'm going to have another go cleaning the surfaces, and carefully, and thinly applying some more thermal paste....it must be a problem with heat transfer... :'(...!
...(some of that Arctic Silver "stuff" would be handy!)... ::)...!

There's a lot of stuff there, Fozz. Upon which one do I click to get to the real meat and two veg?

Hello, Bjorn....

Just Googled the original AMD Athlon Thoroughbred 2600+...

The max temperature quoted was 85*C - (90*C absolute Max)..!

So after alcohol cleaning, and carefully re heat-pasting the processor, the temp is now steady at 60*C (140*F)....so according to that I should be OK.... ::)...!

I've got two extra case fans fitted, (Desktop case), one inlet, one exhaust...
...(There are a total of six fans fitted altogether!)... :o...!
...sounds like a bleedin' vacuum cleaner...(I'm wearing motorcycle ear plugs!)...LOL...!

I'll have to try running a complex 3D game in a window, and observing the processor temperature, (Aida32 sensor), at the same time!

Actually, as things are, I don't seem to be experiencing any overheating probs with the default processor speeds (2.13 GHz) running either 2D or 3D "stuff"

Paul... 8-)...!

Bleedin' Norah, Rooters...!!

Have I got to come over the Nevada and guide you carefully through all those pretty Icons...!

The first one (Computer) will tell you everything about the "Computer" > Summary...
....>....sensor will show the processor temperature in real time...!

...get the Missus to help you out, Root...they are good at that sort of thing!...;)...!

First time I've seen that. Have seen only a brownish-green page until that...

Taking this machine over to my computer guru for a new hard drive and a boxed version of Windows. Have to look at this later-- like a week from now...

Thanks, Fozz...

I've got seven (nine if you count the ones from the PSU as well). ;)

Well, that's a "congrats" for you then I guess. :D

I have two extra fans installed......on the front at the bottom, I added one fan and opened up some more holes for airflow into the case (the outer plastic grill) and snipped away all the metal inside the fan area (inside the mounting bolt holes) on the main housing.....this one was my supplementary intake air......low to the floor - cooler air ........
For the exhaust air, I have the standard rear fan which is situated between the vid card and the power supply. Adding to the heat removal, I opened a hole in the top of the case, halfway between the power supply and the CD-DVD drive bay (this is the hottest area in the case with the air having no-where to go) ......I then made up a duct to expel the warm air towards the back of the case ........this warm air is rising already and won't interfere or be re-introduced to the case intake in any way........these two additions, along with ensuring that both sides are sealed to the case keep my temps in a very favourable range.......actually, if I take off the side of the case the temps rise.......I have to force the air past the components to pickup and carry away heat........in my most intensive graphic gaming, only my vid card runs warm, but I think its a normal function of the 6800 series.......no probs on it though.

The basic thoery here is the same as I use on my model aircraft when using a cowled engine - intake air in this size hole   > o   and exhaust air out this size hole   > O  ......for the computer I use one intake and two exhaust fans .......bring in cool air which heats and expands and then you need more exhaust area to remove the greater volume.......works like a charm !

Your cpu should be idling around +- 40-45* Fozzer with 72*C room temp, not 60*C, above 60 - 65*C  they will get unstable in my experience, I had about 4 socket a cpu's and they were all similar, with the XP2800+ being the coolest and best of them that I tried.
