I've just read conco's post on the topic My awsome new rig & it is quite obvious that you, Cameron, & many other contributors are tech wizards. I on the other hand have only had this Dell for 4 months or so, just to run fs. I have always used Macs (my first computer 4yrs ago) because I am interested in digital video editing, etc, so Microsoft & Windoze is a 'whole new ball-game' for me. This Dell was the best I could get locally from a firm that refurbishes them, & they put the nVidia 6800 in as it was the best they had at the time. I feel like a blind man in a dark room which is why it was a revelation to come across SimV & other sites (oh - I'm a 64yr old early retired health worker, by the way) with blokes contributing advice & knowledge to chaps like me who are computer illiterate but who have to ask to learn!
As for getting a better computer - I would like to have a bash at building one but I've not got ONE clue about how to do it. I have bought a Haynes book about doing just this & I may just have a go. I am not concerned about the cost as I have more dough than I know what to do with, but I am concerned about spending money wisely & effectively. SO - I'm faced with Have a Go or Buy the Best shelf model. I assume I can get all the kit off the net but have to find them and/or go local if I can find outlets. I'm not so daunted with the putting-together, so much as the setting-up & tweaking.
Well, there I am in a nutshell. You have no idea what a relief it is to have SimV for getting answers to questions so Many Thanks.
