AMD or Intel

i stand by what i say, AMD have a good gameing past and will continue to do so into the future....intel have a good stock build cheapo past and that will continue into the future but from talking to my clan members and gamers i know are still useing AMD and admit that conroe is good, but most of em are planning on AMD's

so if intel are still "on top" in 5 years time cam. i will fly over to michigan or where ever and i will eat my hat!

Many people still use AMD because they don't have the cash to get a Conroe, and AMD is still perfectly fine for today's games.  But believe me, I am typing right now from my brand new Conroe system and it is unbelievably fast, and they are definitely worth the money.  (Haven't updated sig yet)

Does it really matter which one is on top on any given day ?.....all you have to do is sit back and see which one will perform for your dollar when you have amassed a suitable sum to make a purchase....if one manufacturer drives the other and the technology advances faster because of that fact, then we all win in the end as we can only allot so much of our finances towards the processor of choice when we are ready to take the next step in a never ending story of upgrade attempts...........

Not in my neck of the woods. Decent C2D mainboards are excessively expensive here in Australia.

My answer is.......that I thank the lord for BOTH of them. Competition is healthy, it keeps lazy companies on their toes, and forces prices down. If one of these two go out of the game, that'll leave the field open for massive price hikes. Say for example Intel put AMD out of the game, they'd be able to charge up to

Even though Core Duo v2 is faster, AMD still has the best performance to cost ratio.

And in the end 80% of game performance is from the graphics card anyway...

Not the processor, but on the total config AMD is cheaper. DDR2 aint the cheapest stuff around, but that will change in a few months.

And the price of the Core Duo v2 will be influenced by the problems Intel has with Transmeta... AMD paid their fees, while intel didnt

Okay so the DDR2 is $7 more, but in the grand scheme of things its not that much.

And BTW: All AM2 rigs use DDR2, yes 939 is DDR, but 939 is a dead socket.
