1) Whoa... where did you get that from?! The Conroes are on of the same family on LGA775. Any Conroe works with any Conroe supporting motherboard.

2) As has already been said, E6300 = Conroe.

3) As for RAM, will you be overclocking? If you will, PC5300 is really too slow. You should be looking at PC6400 at the minimum.

Thanks for replying, but next time, please read before you rush into things. :)

1) First I was thinking about a MSI K9N Neo-F (amd am2 board) wich doesn't support the Conroes. (As I was told)

3) I don't know anything about harware, so overclocking SOUNDS cool to me, but I don't know anything about it. ;D And I take it PC 5300 is supposed to read PC 6300?

I did read it. I just misread it, sorry.

The DS3 is the good board to get, albeit at a higher price. It's very stable and can hit very high FSBs (400+).

Overclocking is making the system run faster than it was intended to, and the Conroes are fantastic for it.  Every 1.86Ghz E6300 I have seen has hit 3Ghz, some up to 3.2Ghz.

Nope, PC5300 was what I meant. That means that if you overclock the memory won't hit as higher clock speed, meaning a divider is needed. PC6400 memory is more expensive, but can hit higher speeds. So even if you're thinking about overclocking, go for PC6400.

Thanks Jon! I guess I owe you an apology too, because what I wrote sounded a lot worse than how I ment it.

3 GHz sounds amazing, but I'll need to buy a system first begin I will even think about overclocking it. :)

I'll have a look at the overclocking section when I'm ready for it though... ;)

Not a problem, it happens :)

Yep, even the stock E6300 is a fantastic piece of kit. The thing is, if you're going to overclock you need a rig that can do it.

To make myself clearer: PC5300/5400 RAM will work fine at stock the speeds it's meant to run at. Overclocking is about making things run faster, so that RAM won't "overclock" as far as PC6400. Therefore, it's not vital to get faster RAM, but if/when you overclock, it will go much further.

Basically, get it if you can. Overclocking later on provides a free (and very noticable) upgrade.

So, basically, you're telling me to get the PC6400 instead of the E6300?

I need to look up the price difference then (again... :-[ Is there no easy way to do this??  :P)

Not quite lol. All these numbers get so confusing!

The E6300 is a processor. I would advise you get that. It's the cheapest Conroe, but one hell of a piece of kit.

PC5300 and PC6400 refer to RAM. The numbers refer to the frequency that the RAM runs at.
PC5300 - 667mhz
PC6400 - 800mhz

I'm advising the PC6400 as it can run a higher frequency, should it need to (ie. if you wanted to overclock).

Make sure your getting DDR2-800 (or PC2-6400) RAM. Regular DDR will not work in DDR2 slots which are the ones found on Conroe boards.

Other than that looks good. Look at OCZ for your RAM, and the E6300 is fine, unless your like me and do quite a bit of media encoding on the side, in which case the E6600 is the better buy.

Conroe BOARD? I thought that was the PROCESSOR?? ???

I was going for an Asus P5B motherboard or a MSI K9N Neo-F (amd am2 board) that both (I believe) have DDR2 slots. Right?  ::) I'm so confused right now!  :-[ ???  ;D

Thanks again guys! I have the feeling I'm nearly there! :)

When Cameron says "Conroe board" he meant a motherboard that supports the Conroe processor.

The Asus P5B LGA775 motherboard and MSI K9N Neo-F AM2 boards both support DDR2.

But the P5B is a LGA775 board (ie. for Intel Celerons, Pentiums and Conroes)

And the K9N is an AM2 board (ie. for AMD socket AM2 processors)
