ok so personally i would go with standard, its what FS9 was made for. But thats my opinion, you want widescreen be my guest, nobodys forcing you into anything. But my monitor is the Samsung 931b its a LCD screen with 8ms responce 700:1 ratio and let me tell you, the quality is beyond belief when you have it set to its maximum resolution, (1280x1024 off the top of my head) It has both digital and analog so if you have the cord it will plug right into your 7900gt without that adapter that comes with the card. (I have the same card as you i know what im talking about  :P ) The 931B costs $230 american but often goes on sale for less than 200. Its a fantastic monitor for a great price.

all games have wide screen support (Well not really) But if you run the game in your monitors resolution it looks as normal as what you see now.... some games offer a wide screen setting! widescreens are not a rip off either, imagine trying to look at a football field and see

Just using FS9 for an example..

If a panel's size ratio is kept the same (it absolutely HAS to be, to keep gauges from distorting), and it's displayed on a wide-screen... you will lose part of your view above the panel.. period.

in fact I gain with the widescreen.... the old 17 inch has less.... so, I cant change your opinions, but I can say what is true... this is like sli, Some think its great, and some like me hate its very invention... SLI is a gimmik, Widescreens are not...  (ever notice the 4:9 and 16:9) well 16:9 is widescreen, and 4:9 is normal..... Gunny

Gunny are you smokeing crack? SLi is not a gimmik, rathar the future. More and more games that are being launched for Vista are going to require SLi or Crossfire power to be able to run at good FPS at their highest levels. Now Quad SLi may be gimmikey, but not regular SLi.

As for the wide screen, if your doing a lot of movie watching, go for it. If not, go for the normal, though FSX will have support, your addons will have to also support widescreen so that 2D panels don't look streached.

Cheers

who runs 2d panels in FSX? also, Sli is a money making machine..... even with just 2 cards.... a single card should do fine.... SLI though, its a huge overpriced money making waste of technology.... how many games support it yet? I think in maybe 5 years it'll catch on, but thats my opinion.... it was a good idea in theory, but in reality its quite worthless.... Just like I dont think Duals have really caught on yet either..... but I've been away from the tech world for months and havent paid attention! Cheers, Gunny

Then read up, 'cus both platforms have cought on very nicely.

BF2, COD2, Crysis, FSX, GRAW, FEAR, BF2142 these are all games that take full advantage of SLi.

Crysis, FSX, GRAW, BF2142, these are all games that take advantage to a second core.

(This is what I can remember off the top of my head). Also just about everything being launched for Vista, and DX10, are going to fully use dual card setups, Physics processers, and dual core CPUs. Now thankfully the nVidia 80 cores, and ATi R6xx cores are going to have built in Physics chips, but a second card, and a second core are going to have a huge impact in your game play.

just another way to make some people rich...... Its sad what hardware companies do to consumers just to make a buck! but then times change, how much would a gaming rig cost now? 2500!?  Cheers, Gunny

Let's say the instrument panel takes up exactly 1/2 of a standard monitor's screen.. Now.. if you display that same panel on a wide screen it's going to take up more than 1/2.. leaving proportionally less for the view. It really is that simple.

I can build a decent SLi rig for about $1800 includeing OS. And the idea of SLi wasn't to make anyone rich, infact it really didn't. It was designed as a aystem to offer the gamer or graphics artist with the most graphics processing power that they could get. Now in turn did SLi make nVidia's stock rise...well yes, but it wasn't a huge gain, insted now designers and gamers have the power to take their gaming graphics to a photoreal state.

Yes when this stuff came out about 2 years ago it was so expensive, but now its affordable to those with some to spare.

Congo, you need to renember that with widescreens you GAIN width and loose height.

That's to run them maxed out at good frame rates at 2560x1920, but things like SLI 7300GTs are pethetic, and you never get double performance with SLI.

Come on, a single Radeon X1950XTX can run FEAR 1600x1200, 4xAA/16xAF maxed out. fsX, at least on Dx9 with XP scales horribly with SLI.

Double price for 150% single card performance? No way! ;)
