Don't question the best, and Hiper Type R is the best. Yes 580W is a bit much for that system, but that PSU will last you forever, so think of it as a investment for the future. They are also the most stable and relyable PSUs I know.

The Type R is a tad bit more stable, but that should do you just fine if you don't want to spend $100

Two words..........

Fire ( a very real risk )

Damage  ( other components on your system could easily be damaged )

You really should not use the PC until the PSU is replaced. Get one ASAP, regardless of brand.

Okay, that thread title does look a bit funny, anyway...

Thirty minutes ago, when I walked into my room, I noticed a very strong "electric smell". By electric smell I mean the kind of smell which you'll get from pushing a blender, hairdryer, drilling machine and so on, too hard. It's a very distinctive smell, and easily recognized.

I of course tried to find out where the smell came from, and yes it was from my PC. I also took off the side of the cabinet, however I could not see anything unusual or anything.

I also noticed a whining sound coming from the computer, very irritating, and it's still there. I can't tell if it's still producing that smell, or it's just the leftovers I'm breathing in.

The PC seems to be okay though.

Does anybody know what I might be experiencing?

The caps are going bad in either the motherboard or the power supply. Capacitors usually put out a nice smell when they go gad. Nothing better than the smell of burnt caps. Look on the boards for anything that looks unusual(bulging, blew up and looks like a flower ect.)
