So.. at the end of the day full of surfing, downloading, shopping, banking and bill-paying.. no browser stands head-n-shoulders above another.. It's just a personal preference ?

I dont care what anyone says... the safest surfing is done on IE6 or 7 assuming you keep it updated. It can also be the fastest surfing assuming one know how to set it up.

Firefox and other browsers became popular because of the paranoia Microsoft was unsecure... the fact of the matter is as those browsers become popular they will be less secure than IE because those browsers are not supported anywhere near as well as IE.

Actualli I do have a question about non IE browsers.

If IE was removed from windows would another browser actually work. It is my understanding that they use a lot of the IE code to function

That is an intersesting question..

My first instinct is they'd be stand-alone, because they work in LINUX.. But of course, that's a LINUX environment..

Far as security goes. If my bank trusts IE... AND  makes me use it. That's good enough for me. You can be sure I won't be the first one experimenting if/when any other browser is allowed.

Until there's a compelling reason.. I can't see the point in running multiple browsers and having to stop and think which one will be best for the next page I open up.

I agree Brett, I love a simple, easy, fast loading (when I start it up for the first time in the day) browser.... IE is that..... Why are their so many different browsers? Cheers, Gunny

No... thats what is so silly about those browsers. You cannot completely remove IE from XP because it is integrated into the system.... which is also why M$ was having so much legal trouble. It can be shut down and many components removed but it is impossible to remove all the core elements of the IE browser or it will cripple Windows.

..and what is even more silly is compounding another browsers code on top of IE. Anything that is installed over IE must be registered to the same code and therefore is just as open to attack as IE... moreso because it imports more holes.

So.. it's safe to say that running an alternate browser is not only a bit of  hassle.. it's not even wise ?
