If I were buying new right now I'd go for a interim PC, nothing too fancy, I like:

the no frills Asus P5B mainboard

the E6400 Conroe (E6600 for non-overclockers or anyone who wants extreme power)

7900GT PCIe video card

and PC6400 DDR2 800mhz CL4 ram. (G.Skill is cheap here)

I can't live with the agony of my current system for another year, and I'm not getting Vista, so I am upgrading now. I'm still waiting for the case and PSU. Here is what I bought for almost $900 CND including shipping and taxes. I bought everything online because prices in local stores are not competative. $900 CND is 450 pounds.

Abit AN8 32X
AMD 3800 X2
Kingston HyperX PC3200 2X512MB DDR400 CL2-3-2-6 1T
BFG Geforce 6600GT
7200RPM IDE
Pioneer DVD Burner
Floppy Drive
Cooler Master Centurion 5 Case
Vantec iON 2 460W

Thanks for your help in the motherboard thread. Hope nothing goes wrong in the build.

Sorry to sound rude, but isn't the biggest Raptor 150gb?

Why IDE ?

It came from my old computer. This is the only part that came from my old computer. Should have indicated that.

I am running my new rig now. When I was setting it up it took me a while to install the CPU heatsink. I didn't know you have to exert so much force on it. I was really rough on the mobo during the install. I was surprised, and pleased everything works.

Centurion 5 has blue power and hard drive LEDs but they are super strong. It lights up the opposite wall blue. It's kinda funny. I love the new rig.

That's why socket 939 boards have a metal backplate under the cpu socket, however, there's no need to be rough   ::)

Enjoy that PC!
