LOL I think the forum is playing games with us. This thread seems to have duplicated itself ???

And my other thread about SATA/IDE has disappeared :( Oh well I'll repost it :)

I posted above a rather not good foto, but clearly showing the radials on the chipset fan cover, of my replacement latest issue of A8N-SLI Deluxe.

Do you think there is another later type of modified chipset fan than this?

As I mentioned above, this screeched worst than the first, right from the start.

I read all your posts above, do you think that with the A8N 32-SLI Deluxe I will solve this screeching problem?.

I had no overheat trouble, only the distructive screech.

Yep, it's weird. The two threads have the same thread post number (in the Address bar at the top), 1137942343.

So when you post in one it posts in the other as well ??? ???

My replacement fan was different to your's. I don't know why though, maybe a different sub-manufacturer for my region.

If you can get your hands on the A8N32 the do it, they don't have the fan at all and are a more advanced board.

Yes, my replacement fan has a much lower rpm so it's nowhere near as loud. I took it off after testing it, I'll replace it if I ever go to sell this board. That way it  will have a new and original HSF on the chipset for whoever buys it.

My replacement Asus fan was about half the RPM from the original, in the 4-6000 range, I can't remember exactly.

OK thanx,
will post again when I manage to change to 32.

From the foto I found, the chipset fan seems to blow its hot air on to the CPU fan?, or does it suck air out?.
Hopefully the pipe will clear the 6600gt's end.

One more thing, if you or anybody else knows,
"Realtek AC'97 Audio" is embeded in this mobo.

When test recording in winXP

Fan looks odd, you sure that is standard? It would blow out the back if it is, just behind that fan is usually the back upper case fan though.

AC'97 is a codec form Realtek, it's not the sound chip. nForce4 boards come with a high quality 8 channel sound chip.

The drivers install a util that runs in the background and it's has several effects to choose from. It sounds like you have one of those effects enabled.

I set the utility to all defaults and turn as much off as possible, then I disable the utility from running in the background.

It's called SOUNDMAN I think.

Sound has always baffled me, it seems as if you make a change in one program and other stuff gets affected, this is probably due to many programs simply accessing the system sound settings and not doing it indepently, or simply a limitation of the hardware.

Set up TS the way you want it, and then use your Windows sound settings (I click on the speaker icon in the system tray) to set the levels if there is a problem.

Some other program may be re-setting the TS levels everytime you close the TS settings page, since both programs are using the windows settings anyway.

I'm not sure about this, but that's the way it seems. It can be a real problem, you set sound levels in one program and it screws with another. I think that if a happy medium can be adjusted into all the programs, you have some success, but this is luck and trial and error on my part.

I have TS 22.0.33.60, wxp volume has no effect on it, at least during local test.

Every time I click on the "Activate local test" the volume slide moves, same when click on test codec arrow.

Found Soundman set environment to none, & speakers to headfones, some effect on TS, maybe a bit on win recording. But volume slider still moves as above.

Regarding chipset, I saw the fan in a small compartment of the mobo box. I have no case fan.

Now, Clogen comes up like this with get values from my PC a8n-sli / amd Athlon64 3500+.

Unfortunately it has no help & could not find any instructions in the line of my trusted

I wrote a tutorial in the Tweaking and Overclocking forum on clockgen, leave any further queries about it there.

That fan above the chipset/heatpipe radiator is an optional one used where there is passive cooling on the CPU, or no case fan or something, info from Asus site. The radiator (without the fan) relies on air passed through the CPU HSF assembly for cooling. Fine if it works, but I think I'd want some cool fresh air pumped in there someplace.

Most cases have 1 or 2 mounts for case fans at the bottom front, behind the front panel and in front of the HDD bays, you need a high volume fan there.

Start/Run/ type: msconfig, hit enter, go to startup tab there and turn everything off that's not required, this should include just about everything, if not everything, including soundman.

I think local test mode is just to make sure your mic and everything is working, I wouldn't worry about the levels there. Can't you connect with TS?

1. By hook or by crook, after your previous advise, TS seems to work now, various stations reported they read me loud & clear now, some are not clear to me.
Adjusted now the volumes as you said & improved too.

2. All cleared in Start, after previous advice, via Starter.

3. I searched for your tutorial but no find. Any clues of how to find it?.

4. I saw the optional on fan, but as is provided in the box, would'nt be advisable to use it anyway?.

5. My case has 2 grills low in front & 2 high at back, they measure 70mm or 2" &3/4 inch between the holes.
Do you choose the volume on this measurement, or the speed?

Will find one at next pc fair.
