Andy,

You need to disable your onboard sound in the BIOS, and thus enable your addon soundcard.

After you reboot with the onboard sound disabled, go to Start/settings/contol panel/add remove programs and delete the onboard sound drivers there before installing the new card.

Hopefully that will sort any conflicts and it should install normally, providing you have the correct driver disk.

Don't forget to change the cables over at the rear of the PC from the onboard outlets to the addon card's outlets.  ;)
