Thanx wasp,
on another tone, for ages chaps here were advocating the 8800gtx as best, but now tese are non existant I wonder which card is better than 8800gtx?.

Also, I noticed your motherboard is it Intel? I've always used AMD as they said it was best for my only game fs9, would there be an advantage to go Intel in my forthcoming upgrade?

For FSX there are still no cards better than the GTX/Ultra.
They may become available again on this site.
http://www.evga.com/products/moreInfo.a ... P2-N887-AR
In the mean time... the next best thing is the 9800GTX... slightly faster and will perform better in other games as well.
(The product in the link above is for an MSI card, fastest on the Newegg's list of 9800s under $200. Best bang-for-buck.)

Again... in FSX the 9/8800 GTXs are still unbeaten.
The 260s and 280s however are said to perform better on other games.

***EDIT***

I stand corrected by another post from Nick:
...
if you intend to go to the 200 series the 280 is the only choice... the 260 is made from a FAILED chip being tested for the 280 core bin and is NOT better than a 8800GTX Ultra in FSX

sorry, but your 9800GTX is not better than a 768MB 8800 Ultra in FSX either

the GTX 280 on the 177.92 beta driver is the ONLY card that will beat a 8800GTX Ultra in FSX and it will rule in other games as well although in Crysis the 4780x2 will kill the 280 with high AA quality enabled

Wasp,
if I knew what is best I wouldn't bother you knowlegable young people for your help.

Mousy,
Here the 8800gtx is not available & may not be so they say with the new staff coming out like 7900 &. 4870 series.

F....,
could that be you Foz me old timer hiding behind what F.... knows?

Well my present system I upgraded on 20/3/05 & had plenty of time to save for this one.

As I fell out of touch of progress it is difficult to find out what would now be best for fs9, & within reason & for the right staff money is no object this time.

Yours hopefull,

Hello Luke...;)..!

I'm surprised the you find it necessary to spend vast sums of money on an upgrade to run your trusty FS 2004... :o...!

Looking at your Spec. I would reckon that just an upgrade on that 6600 Graphics Card to something a little bit better, would suffice!

My FS 2004 runs flat out, everything maxed, with my ancient Socket A AMD 2600+ Processor (2.1 GHz), and 78000 GS 256MB AGP Graphics Card.....2.3 GB of Memory...and 700Watt PSU...

Win XP Pro. SP2.

..total, low-cost joy... :)...!

F.

Running FSX would be a different story altogether!... ;)...!

Well well F,  Iguesed you right.

just thought a bit of spring cleaning will pep me up some as with what I,ve got could never run on "maxed out", whatever that means.

Would be an experience to use new technology as well.

I thought of only a good Grfx card, but yet are these new ones compatible with what I,ve got?, & a faster CPU they say matters too.

I would try it if I could get it in person from a shop & return if no use, but our local shop is gone now.

See you, luke
