Since I don't come here with problems very often, humor me while I unload a series of them

Actually they UPDATED that... page through, there are 3 pages for the fan control setup and that is how it is done

variations would be if you wish to add more points and have less change to the fan speed

here is what my readout looks like...

Image

Each line (temp) represents another 'step' up or down in speed

I set my range from 42c to 90c

I have it set to idle at 30% and then step up based on 13 temp increases/decreases so my fan is VERY dynamic. I adjusted the speed to temp based on tests I ran to see how hot it really gets.

I use a special HSF for that card, so it rarely goes over 72 even in the middle of summer.

I dont use RT to overclock.. I use ATI TOOL to do that. The newer drivers were giving RT problems so I kept it simple and use ATI TOOL for 'automatic' overclocking.. as soon as it detects FSX, it "pumps up the jam" and then UNDERCLOCKS the card for max cooling as soon as I shut FSX down.

Yeah.. I can work my way through that stuff... I'm getting familiar with RivaTuner... but doesn't that still require RivaTuner to be running in the tray ?

neither are heavy hitters, no resource problem

Excellent.. I just needed to see someone knowledgable say that.

Now the $64,000 question...  Since the fan never sped up prior to the crash (prior to installing RT).. is this even a heat issue ?

No, we are not certain its heat.. I was just going by what you said abut the fan not working

best way to tell that is to set the RivaTuner monitor to record while you fly (little red button, bottom corner) and enable the TEMP graph to show.

When it crashes... drop to desktop and look at the temp graph.. if its well into the 80's (up toward 90) it a-cookin

by the way, that little red button must be ON at all times if you want the fan controlled automatically. You can close the readout display but the button must be 'enabled' to monitor and control fan speed.

If the temp is not above 80 then I would say you are having a driver crash of some type...
