Conroe is here......

Yes I've wated, and argued, but now that the chip is finally here we get to find out if I truely am just a fanboy, or if Intel is really paying off. Tomorow at 12:01AM retailors around the gloab will be selling the new chips. This also means that the prices are dropping on everything else. So get your cash together boys, its buying time.

Cheers

LOL

AMD64 x2 5000+ same performace as FX62 for 1/2 the price. Fully overclocked it should come close to theoretical FX64.

No brainer in my opinion. Especially when DX10 ATI cards may be streamlined for AMD.

LOL

Then again, Conroe does has its ups.... for now.

LA LA LA LA LA LA !!!!!!! I CANT HEAR YOU!!! LA LA LA

Anyway, if I remember reading the press release correctly Building an AMD / ATi system will hold no more advantages than building a Intel / ATi system. Then again I could be wrong.

you are absolutely correct my friend, it will work just fine.

...until Hector Ruiz commands from upon high; I therefore hereby serve notice that Intel shall no longer have thy ATI support.

So let it be written, so let it be done.

hmmmm... quite a guy actually

President George W. Bush has appointed AMD (NYSE:AMD) chairman and CEO Hector Ruiz to serve on the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST).

AMD will continue to support the entire ATI product line, including chipsets for Intel processors, though rumor has it that Intel will withdraw ATI's license to build them. If so, that would put AMD CEO Hector Ruiz' words in a new light, since he said that ATI provides a compelling platform for Intel, and that he expects Intel to want what's best for the customer.

http://www.theinquirer.net/default.aspx?article=33225

Intel just did exactly what Hector Ruiz did not want them to do. He was going to be a sport about it but Intel does not give a flying shat about its customers... Intel is pizzed off now and is going to take their ball and go home, just as expected from a spoiled brat who needs a spanking.

AMD will remove ATI support for Intel by the 2nd release of the R600 core with Dx10 support and supporting chipset..

such a shame

;D

so... as i was saying... now that AMD has been bombed for the past 7 minutes... is it worth going for the 3700+ i've been eyeing, or even the 4400? or are prices going down the hill so fast... ya know what i mean...

how is it cameron? golden box? does it come with a servant to put it in for you? are you squeezing out the Ghz's already? is your FS performance now at your goal of 40000000000 fps? can i borrow some of your ghz's? :P ::) ;) 8)

i dont know how you do it. im barely just squeezing out a few bucks to get some more ram for mine. just a couple of 128's to give me the extra kick to "4" on vista.

If your buying for VISTA and FSX you need a dual core, the faster the better.

The 3700 is old news. Its still a great proc but I'm not sure if AMD is dropping that one down in price as low as others. I would need to look at the price sheet again.

the 3700 stays the same and the x2 4400 and 4800 is being discontinued with no price cut.

http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=3460

expect to see the reduced prices @ hardware sites very soon

hmmmmmm... wasnt this thread about that 'other' processor company?

Well its now official, no matter what its going to be more cost effective to build a Intel system for smaller budgets. With the 805 Ceder Mill at $93 and the 915 Prestler at $130 both are cheaper than a 3800+ x2.

http://images.dailytech.com/nimage/2141 ... dprice.png

Even with the $30 more you pay for DDR2 its still a better buy.

It's still about $200-$250 dearer to build the conroe rigs here, partially due to high mobo prices. This is pretty much in line with expected performance increases over AMD, so Conroe looks fairly priced in my locale, it's just a matter of forking out the extra for it.

Ramos, the 4400+ would be better than a 3700+ right now, especially with FSX looming.

woha... bargain basement indeed. i can get some really good X2 cores. good thing my mobo supports it. i contlemplated going to AM2, but forget it now.

im in a sense, secondhand, but not so much. this is one hell of a bargain. X2 4600+'s for $224, thats dreaming right there.

this has to be a dream, where did i put those red heels ::) :P

What makes a 4600+ any good?

This one has an E4 core, similar to the San Diego, but half the L2 cache is disabled, also it's thermal limit is very low:

http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop ... 4600DAA5BV

I find it interesting that an X2 on an E4 core with full 2mb of L2 cache was never produced, no doubt because it would outperform every other model on the market including their workstation processors, sigh......

Socket AM2 works the memory bus differently, odd CPU multipliers reduce memory bandwidth, a 5000+ has an odd cpu multiplier.

Conroes won't be released in OZ until 7th August.
