Can the stick/throttle be used independently, or in combination with other sticks/throttles?

The Stick can be used independently, but the throttle has to be used with the Joystick.

The cable from the thottle plugs into the base of the joystick. I learned this after 10 minutes of cursing loudly at Saitek for selling me a defective product.

How can you do that when only the throttle has a USB connector connected to it?? You can't even use the stick without connecting it to the throttle.

Thats on the X52 anyway, not sure about the X45.

Is that on the X45 then - 'cause i'm looking at my X52 right now & the USB is definately on the throttle.

I was leaning towards the 52 anyhow (More costly, but I'm going to go against the common thought and say I prefer the joystick-twist rudder over the odd toggle switch on the throttle)...

So if the 45 can be used without the throttle, because the USB cord is on the stick... Does the 52 throttle work without the stick plugged in?

I've been wondering about this because it seems like a good way to get an affordable throttle, and then later upgrade to a better flight stick (The 52 is so huge and unwieldy, and I've heard it's kinda loose feeling), without paying for an expensive CH one. I'm thinking 52 throttle and Cyborg Evo Force Feedback (I'm addicted to the FF don't ya know...) later when I have a little more money. I have no shortage of USB ports, thankfully.

Well i've just tried it & it seemed to work as per normal without the stick being plugged in aswell. The only problem combining an X52 throttle with a different yoke (instead of the X52 stick) would be in the control assignments here:

Does FS only give you the option of using ONE control system?? From the menu you might only be allowed to select either X52 or CH Yoke - but not a mixture of both?? I never tried it so I don't know.

[glb]A: You sure can, but assuming that Windows detects the two devices, you will have to set them up using the FS2004 menu - Options\Controls\Assignments will get you where you need to be. Select the first device using the 'joystick type' drop down, assign the axes (an axis is anything that swivels) and any buttons, then do the same for the other device after selecting that. If you are adding in pedals after using a joystick with rudder assigned to a twist grip, take care to delete the rudder assignment on the joystick before assigning it to the pedals.[/glb]

Not exactly the same question, but I see no reason the same steps wouldn't work just as well here.

Well, worse comes to worse, I'm sure I can somehow survive with a stock X-52 I can test to make sure a different joystick will work easy enough though, I've got a half a dozen of the buggers floating around my house, and at least 2 are USB. Both of them are pretty cheap, but they work... Heck, I'm using one of them right now just fine for FS9 I do want to move up to a HOTAS setup, and compared to the CH offerings, the X-52 seems like a good way to go about it on my budget.

I have the X45, and the throttle must be plugged into the base of the joy stick. If it's the opposite on the 52(which I can't understand why they would) then Saitek changed the configuration.

On the X45 you can use the joy stick as a stand alone controller, but the throttle can not be used without the joy stick.

Given a choice between the 45 and the 52, I think I would stay with the 45.....
I have a realism problem with a twist-for-rudder function on any stick.....I know of no A/C which do this in real life......
....the 45 has the rudder control on the underside of the throttle handle, and can be used without fear of erroneous inputs to pitch and roll when needed........
....did I mention that I've been flying my X-45 for a few yrs now........
