Question about installing my new CPU

Ok I am replacing my Pentium D 820, with a Core 2 Duo E6600.

Do I need to do anything other then just change out the CPU's?

Is there any sort of drivers I should be updating?

Just make sure your motherboard is compatible to the new CPU. You might have to upgrade the BIOS, but I don't know your specifics such as the mb and what BIOS it already has.
Other than that, there's really nothing you have to do.

Replacing the CPU...

If you have never done anything like this before, successfully, taking all the proper precautions, and observing all the correct step-by-step instructions and procedures, then I suspect a very expensive disaster, with much sadness involved...
Unless you are fully conversant with Computer Hardware, I would highly recommend getting a professional, or knowledgeable person, to do the job for you!
For the unwary, lots of expensive things can go wrong when changing Central Processors and their Heat Sinks.
Its not as simple? as plugging in a Graphics Card.

Haha ! dont worry Paul I have done this before! I built this computer from the ground up. I have pulled all the equipment many times.

The CPU is compatible with my motherboard, if you are curious of what my motherboard is, here it is:

And I have also already updated my BIOS to the latest version, but there shouldn't be any issues there anyway...


But its been a while since I have gotten a new CPU, and the chipset driver issue just slips my mind. I didn't remember if there was any software updates needed.

I do worry a bit when Folks post on the Hardware Forum regarding performing various jobs on their Computer, especially involving the CPU and Cooler...

..thinks....Earthing strap, suitable tools, clean surfaces and correct application of heat conducting paste, pin alignment, retaining straps, etc, etc, so many things to go wrong!

Once you've mastered all that your are good to go!

..thinks....Earthing strap, suitable tools, clean surfaces and correct application of heat conducting paste, pin alignment, retaining straps, etc, etc, so many things to go wrong!

Once you've mastered all that your are good to go!

Ohh I know what you mean tho! Some people just don't understand how delicate the pins are. They are made of gold so they are usually really easy to bend.

Luckly for me, the socket 775 that I have, the pins are in the motherboard, not the CPU. All I have to do is put the CPU in, and flip the lever to clamp it down. (making sure it is in the right way of course!)

But some people think they can do it, then end up burning things out from leaving the PSU plugged in, or they bend a pin (CPU, or hard drive)

And a hole list of things...

I dunno... I find computers very simple..

Expessially after trying to figure out how a girl works!

Well I finally got it installed... and its pretty impressive so far :p

fsx stuttered before but now I can fly over new york between  the buildings easily!

and this processor is really easily overclocked too! I have it up to 2.55 ghz and temps are no more then 46.

Its awsome!! im so happy I hot it!
