CPU shopping, need help...

Postby ShaneG_old » Sun Jul 04, 2010 7:28 am

I need a little shopping help,

as the method I'm using isn't working out so well,

and I just plain don't know one CPU from another in most cases.

I'm upgrading my CPU,

because they are finally cheap enough for me to do so,

and not regret it.

First off, let me start by asking that you PLEASE don't tell me to get an i7.

Personally, looking at that list, id try to go for a 965, but you could be like me and go for a 955($20 cheaper)

AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition Callisto 3.2GHz (DUAL CORE)
or
AMD Athlon II X4 630 Propus 2.8GHz (QUAD CORE)

FSX likes quads, FS9 doesn't.

The top one overclocks really easily since it's a Black Edition.

Both $99.

Also, don't get a Phenom 1 (that is Phenom ONE) or Athlon I (Athlon ONE) get Phenom II or Athlon II instead. Phenom 1 and Athlon I are older and much less efficient per clock cycle.

Looks like I'm going for the Dual core then.  :)

Although I have FSX, I don't kid myself about my systems ablility to run it as well as my FS9 does,
and I'm ok with that.
It gives me something to look forward to in the future.
Much like FS9 did for me when I was still using FS2000pro, waiting on the day I could build something to run it.  :)

No overclocking here, I wouldn't know where to start, none of my system is up to the challenge, and I can't afford to replace my mistakes.  ;D

I've been waiting 2 years to do this upgrade, and need it to last at least another 2 until the i7s get to this price range.  ;)
