PC reboots 10 mins into sim running

Postby thainoodle » Wed Aug 12, 2009 3:42 pm

Hi, can anyone give me some advice please?

recently, when I am running fs9, my pc will reboot without warning. Its a pain in the arse to say the least! I have replaced the cpu fan and northbridge cooler as both of these were shot but it still does it. Could it be a software issue?

Specs are:

2.75mhz dual core intel
3gig of ram
Nvidia Geforce 8800 gtx 768mb
22"hanns g  tft
Running NHancer and NickN's tweaks

Any help gratefully recieved!

Thanks
paul

This usually occurs because the CPU is overheating.

First things first... If you have an OC on that CPU, back off from it. Set it to default and see if it first happens... Try to monitor the temps and see if it goes above the max rated temp for that CPU.

You might also want to reseat the heatsink and fan. Make sure it's down tight and apply some good thermal paste to it... OCZ Freeze is the best you can find.

Thanks Andy, that was my first thought hence the new cooler on the cpu and new thermal paste. Still to no avail, although oddly enough it runs for longer since changing the cooler. I have a case mounted thermo gauge so shall mount that to the cpu and monitor the temp. Its not been overclocked at all either..

PSU seems to be ok, its reasonably new and wasnt an ebay cheapie!

A GPU overheat wouldn't cause the system to restart

Paul.. how many watts is your PSU?

EDIT: It could be a faulty cpu chip or motherboard. Do you still have a warranty on either?

Ok well i fixed it!

I bought an asus P5Q pro, fitted an intel core2 duo 3ghz with 4 gb of ddr2 1066 corsair dominator ram, put my 8800GTX and VelociRaptor drive in, filled it with XP pro and FS9.

Oddly enough, it now works a little bit well  ;D
XP 32, Asus pq5 Pro, P4 775 e8400 3ghz, 4gb ddr2 1066mhz corsair dominator, 8800gtx, 160gb 10,000rpm velociraptor, 700w arctic power psu, arctic cooling freezer7 pro, 22" tft and a saitek x52. I love FS9 & old jets :)
