I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally have a hard time trusting the "latest and greatest" anything from Microsoft. I could be wrong, but my understanding is that Windows 7 is basically just a version of Vista that's lighter on resources. If it were me, I'd stick with XP for now.

An interesting read...

XP x64 is what I use

W7 is no faster than Windows Vista in FSX and there are issues with W7 and the FSX kneeboard and a few other nit-pick problems

Regardless you should always install FSX/FS9 to its own drive in Vista/W7 and set the permissions on the install folder to FULL with no inlfuences from Vista's nanny service which is why a lot of people see problems. The program files folder is still being monitored by UAC even if UAC is shut down and most people do not know that.

FSX/FS9 is best served on its own SATAII drive.. even with XP

None the less, XP x64 has less issues and in my opinion runs FSX smoother than Vista/W7

Be sure to collect all the correct drivers you need for Windows XP x64

Thanks Nick, and GroundBound  :)

i'm tired of Vista... i'm mad at it and i won't get near it again for anything more serious than casual laptop use (i haven't removed Vista off the laptop simply because i'm lazy, but it shall be gone at the first sign of trouble)

i'll be going back to XP today... and will be happy doing so  :)

Cheers

Umm I have 2 drives my main is a 300 gig Sata drive and my second is on a IDE channel used just for storage. In that case would it be better to install fs9 on the other drive, or just stick with my main drive till I can get another sata drive. I am using XP x86..
Specs
E6300, 3 gigs 800 Ram, 8800GT oc, 400gig Sata drive, Windows XP Pro 64 Bit..

Do NOT put FSX on a IDE drive

SATAII (or better) only

A WD VelociRaptor is the best
