this post is merely an overture to what i'm hoping the hardware geniuses here will advise, but a good computer these days basically consists of:
an i7 processor
a compatible socket 1366 mobo
DDR3 RAM
a 260/285 GTX card
and given that i7 CPUs require the new socket, any step short of it would mean having to buy another motherboard when you decide to upgrade CPUs again...
i don't think i'm informed enough to give any more specific advice than this... hopefully Nick or the other geniuses will come for help soon ;)
Cheers
