Formatting HDD for 64kb clusters. Very Fast?

I used Acronis Disk Director to reformatt my HDD to 64kb clusters in prep for a fresh FSX install.  When I did this the formatting went incredibly fast...just a few seconds.  Is this right?  I'm aprehensive about installing FSX until I'm confident I have the right format.

thats all it takes is a matter of second if there is nothing on the drive

you can check the properties of the drive in Acronis to confirm the current cluster format however as you probably noticed the size of the drive is much smaller than the full size to the system because you lose some gigs to the 64K cluster size




By the way.. there is nothing 'majorly' wrong with the Mustang. The main problem is people are not installing their flight sim correctly or they do not have enough processor power to deal with the Garmin controls in the VC.

A real Garmin trainer (just the device itself, not a sim) for the PC (from the company Garmin for real pilots) brings most computers to their knees

Cessna (the real aircraft company) personally placed their official seal of approval on that aircraft as nearly duplicate to the real plane in how it works and flys

Sorry you had trouble with it and like any new release there may be a few bugs that need to be worked out however the type of posting that went on was not necessary. All you had to do was request a refund without the BS if you were having trouble


that aircraft is better suited for real pilots who are willing to give up scenery and perks in the sim to fly it

Even my older DDR3 Q6700 system required I drop autogen and scenery complexity a notch along with cloud density down to high instead of maximum to run that aircraft smoothly

If the gauges were not appearing then something in your sim install was not right

I didn't like how Acronis did it so fast so I formatted it in Disk Manager for 64k clusters (it gave me that option), it took about 40 min for 300Gb.  Acronis did the same thing in seconds.  If Acronis is doing it right I'll just use that instead.  

Nick, I flew off the handle last night and I know it was unnecessary and uncalled for.  I sent Jim and Steve an apology by pm and if I could post on the Mustang forum I would apologize there too.  

I always follow the FSX/Accel installation bible, I hope you realize that. I have no problems with the Garmin in the default Accel.  The Mustang flew fine and smooth.  Just all the screens were black (the analog guages seemed to work).   I don't have any other aircraft anomalies except with this one.  But I might have thought of something:

I reinstalled the Mustang when I got the i7 and I didn't use the Flight1 purchasing module to do the reinstall.  I'll bet that was it.  I'm trying this again and I hope it works but if it doesn't I won't cry like before.  

I'll agree there's nothing that warranted my obcene rant last night and I'll make no excuses.  I can get hot-headed when I'm frustrated.  I'm sorry I took it out on Jim & his crew.

One more thing, I just received a pm from Steve and he told me that Acceleration doesn't always install SP2 properly.  If that's the case then how do we correct it?  Do I need to install SP2 on top of Accel or the other way around, or just Accel alone?

I though I had this install routine down, now I hear a wrinkle that changes everything. :-?

A glitch can happen when SP2 installs even when you follow the install order... rare but it still plauges the title

In this case the license module is probably missing. You changed hardware and in doing so it requires a new license module be written to the hard drive with the purchase module.


As for the speed of a format job... the other software more than likely ran a 'full' CHKDSK while the format was in progress, similar to installing Windows and selecting the FULL NTFS FORMAT over the QUICK option which takes a long time before the Winodws installion starts. The QUICK option takes 2 seconds to complete
