I don't know what the deal is but

Postby Jay29 » Fri Dec 05, 2008 11:56 am

OK I bought a new pc that should be way more then capable of running fsx at a decent rate. But I am still only getting like 15fps if I'm lucky. I will post my system specs below in a min. I have my fsx settings at, Aircraft Ultra high, no traffic, low weather, scenery dense. everything else is rather simple except for the aircraft graphics which i have set at ultra high. ok heres the specs.

HP Pavilion Slimline S3530F AMD Phenom X4 Quad-re 500GB PC

# Includes desktop and HP mobile remote control
# 1.8GHz AMD Phenom X4 quad-core processor 9100e
# 4096MB PC2-6400 DDR2 SDRAM
# 500GB SATA hard drive
# SuperMulti DVD burner/Blu-ray combo drive with LightScribe
# 802.11b/g wireless LAN
# NVIDIA GeForce 9500GS graphics, up to 2303MB available graphics memory
# Blu-ray, Microsoft DirectX 10, DVI, HDMI support
# AMD Live Smarter Digital Entertainment technology
# NTSC/over-the-air ATSC high-def TV tuner
# High-definition audio, six-speaker support
# HP multimedia keyboard
# HP optical mouse
# External USB 56K modem
# Integrated 10/100 Base-T ethernet
# 15-in-1 media card reader: SM, xD, MMC, RSMMC, MMC Mobile, MMC Plus, SD/miniSD, CF I/II, MD, MS, MS Pro, MS Duo, MS Pro Duo
# HP pocket media drive bay
# Six USB 2.0 ports
# Two PS/2 ports
# IEEE 1394, headphone, digital audio out, LAN, mic/line-in/line-out ports
# Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium, SP1 64 bit

I realize Vista is a memory hog and especially the 64 bit but anytime I run task manager even with fsx running as well the cpu usage is pretty low. Any suggestions? Ideas of why the crappy frame rate? I was told this was a good graphics card as well, is it not tweaked right??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

1.8ghz processor is bad enough... but a AMD 1.8ghz processor is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to CPU power

let me give you an example

a 3GHz AMD processor can not outdo a 1.8-2.2GHz Intel Core2

yep, you read that right

Clock for clock a 1.8Ghz AMD is like running a 1GHz Core2 I dont care if the AMD is a quad

next.. the video card

a GeForce 9500GS is like running a 7600GS card ... the video card specs are not even max for FS9 much less FSX

your system runs 1/2-2/3rds the speed required for FSX and decent performance with scenery

Hey Thank you NickN, i think I will send this pc back then. thought it was a powerhouse of a pc  but not gonna waste my money if a lower end Intel duo core would do even better!

You should be able to ge a 3GHz Core2 dual core with a 8800GT which will run FSX much better

Q9300 is 2.5GHz and if the motherboard allows it that can be clocked up.. for really good FSX you want 3GHz or more if possible but its a far cry than the AMD

8GB of memory is worthless unless you are an engineer using special programs that will run 8GB and without a 64bit OS which is Windows Vista x64 or Windows XP x64 you cant ever use more than 4... 32bit OS will only allow access by FSX SP2 to 3.2GB assuming the video card memory is 512.. @ 1GB probably no more than  2.8

The system is much better than the AMD system but it could be better

Cost wise dump 4GB and add a better processor...

That motherboard is Intel. I don't think Intel have options for tweaking or overclocking - buy an ASUS or Gigabyte, that has P43 or P45 chipset.

Thanks again. As far as the new system I think it is 64 bit, i know what ya mean about the 8gb ram if its 32 bit but I'm sure its 64 I will call an find out. Anyway my whole thing is I dont expect to play fsx maxed out but I would like to be able to play it with a better frame rate then 14fps!
