Graphics card advce needed please.

Postby gypsymoth » Tue Aug 19, 2008 4:25 am

After adding UK2000 free scenery & WoAI airlines there's a drop in frame rates from 24 to around 10 at Heathrow/SeaTac, etc & I was wondering if getting a new card would help?  Reducing traffic density will defeat the object.

I thought about this one: XFX Nvidia 9600GT 680M 512MB DDR3 Dual Dvi, PCI Express graphics Card XXX edition - PV-T94P-YDD4 - & I'd appreciate
some advice.

Thanks.

Without having a darn lot of knowledge on this type of thing (so don't take my word for it):

I think you'd be better off with a faster processor or more RAM.

But as I said, I don't know much about it, so I'll let someone say something else :P

A new card may help, but you'll likely find that you're in the same boat as myself. Our processors are a little long in the tooth for these kinds of loads. On my system, with 90% traffic in similar areas, frame-rates drop to the low-mid teens.

I too have heard great things about the 8800 series cards, rather than the 9600's. (All hear-say though. I'm still stuck with an AGP system, and haven't tried either. :-/)

IMO I think the 8800 series is perfect. Good drivers and good power.

Thanks but guess what.  FR improved by locking it at 100 & then bringing it down to 35 (used to be 24) so it's now 18 at HR with 100% traffic & 40 aircraft on the ground.    Gatwick gives 23-24 when flying over at 1200ft at 250mph & again 40 items on the deck.   :P
