X52 rudder issues

Postby ptrkrsh » Mon Jul 21, 2008 8:59 pm

I have had my x52 for almost 2 years now and over the past 2 months my rudder axis (twist) has become so twitchy it has made flying helos impossible and causes scary yaw during conventional aircraft flight. Instead of a smooth progression from no rudder to max it reacts more like a light switch. I have to twist the stick almost halfway to the stops in either direction before the rudder reacts at which point it moves to maximum deflection. it makes coordinating turns very interesting. I have calibrated, checked settings in fsx. adjusted dead zones. reinstalled drivers (after cleaning the old out in entirety) Also the pinke switch still clicks when being depressed just like when new but the MFD constantly read Mode 1 + Pinkie like the switch is constantly being pulled. the switch has not worked properly for months. Love the amount of functions on this stick, but not overly impressed with reliability. Any help appreciated

well it sounds to me that you've got a dirty joystick there... sometimes the dust can get into the sensors and really screw things up...

in that case you'd have to clean it somehow... and that could involve partially dismantling your joystick to fix it... that's if you feel comfortable taking it apart...

another theory is that you may have broken/cracked solders in there, and they're causing intermittent signals... that again would require dismantling... AND soldering!!  ;)

mind that these are just theories... it might be something completely different that's causing the trouble... but i had joysticks that gave out on me like that, and i fixed them that way

hope this helps

Cheers

Have you been into the Saitek profile software and had a look at the rudder axis dead zones?

Sounds to me as though you have a dead zone set up either side of neutral, and as a result, the range of motion is compressed into the amount left as a non-dead zone (if you get what I mean!) this would explain the twitchyness.
