Looks like ATI is putting pressure on Nvidia

Postby freedomhays » Thu Jul 03, 2008 6:37 pm

NickN................Looks like ATI is putting a little pressure on Nvidia with their 4000 series graphics cards.

Nvidia (NVDA: 12.49, -5.54, -30.72%) plunged 30% after the chip maker slashed its second-quarter revenue outlook, prompting analysts to lower their price targets on the stock. Nvidia, which makes graphics cards, sees sales coming in at $875 million to $950 million, compared to mean estimates of $1.1 billion from analysts. The company cited global end-market weakness, delays and price adjustments due to competition.

My Radeon HD 4870 is on the way.........

I am holding out till the end of the year

although the 4870 is no slouch it still does not beat the 8800GTX/ultra in FSX heavy weather. I expect their next card or the one after will be the crowning jewel

The game is finally back on between ATI and Nv but be aware, ATI is not really interested in the enthusiast market anymore (at least not top priority).. they and AMD will go after the home entertainment and OEM's. That could work out better in the long run because when you dev for those markets, you cant screw up and make money so the better tech will probably bleed into their game cards

The GPU "enthusiast market " seems to be in danger of being slowly eliminated due to PC gaming in general now being largely ignored  by developers and programers favoring consoles.

I wonder how this will effect the future of FS? Perhaps the FS/ train sim market alone is large enough to keep the GPU enthusiast market alive?

I am still with nVidia whatever-the-weather.

ATI messed me up when they released drivers which werent actually compatible with Vista (was a while ago I know, but no CCC = not much control over my hardware)

I moved to nVidia and I am happy.

Consoles will be obsolete once Nehalem is released, and the first 8th gen console is expected to appear in 2010, still a year after Nehalem is released, though the 360, the starter, will be around till 2016 before getting killed off, because of Too Human.

The wii never was good, the only thing about it was Twilight princess.

the PS3 will be the one that can probably last till it's 2013 successor.

Don't count PC's out just yet ;D
