never seen this before...

Postby pengyman89 » Mon Jun 30, 2008 11:25 pm

My screen spontaneously took on a yellowish...tint? it changed while i was only on msn, not typing, not moving the mouse, no other major applications running. Essentially nothing was really going on when this happened. Needless to say i'm kind of confused by it.

I'm assuming this is the monitor not my computer, is it possible that one of the colours projected by the monitor has seen its last days? The monitor is not all that old, it is CRT but it is at least 3 years old.

Any thoughts on what may have caused this/any possible fixes?

Easiest way to check is to plug another monitor in if you can get hold of one.

I use to have this problem with my CRT, but it was blue, it would go away if a gave it a good ol' whack on the side. Oh the problem might be the picture tube ;)

Sounds like the color temp setting has changed. I had an old NEC monitor that did the same thing. I'm not sure what actually caused it, but I would turn it on and after a while, ( with no real rhyme or reason) it would spontaneously flip itself to a different color temp. Might be a way to fix it, but I'm not sure if it would be worth it.

What brand is the monitor? I've seen the cheaper brands do exactly what yours did, shortly followed by the acrid smell of capacitors blowing followed by smoke.

You sir, deserve a cookie

On a whim I decided to look behind my computer and wouldn't you know it, one side of the vga cable had partially come out.

Thanks for the tips everyone.
