Motherboard and CPU upgrade

Postby pengyman89 » Thu Jun 26, 2008 5:41 pm

so it's about time the last few remaining pieces of my 3-4 year old Hewlitt Packard were upgraded. I've been looking around a lot and have finally all but settled on the EVGA 750i ftw ($200 @ NCIX, for sli in the near future) and the Intel E8400.

I wrestled with CPU choices for a while, between the e8400 and the q6600. still kinda indecisive but i figure by the time i actually get use out of a quad core i will be ready to upgrade anyways. For now all i'm doing is gaming and word processing (university coming up).

Just wondering what everyone's opinion on the two bits are. I'm using them with an 8800gt and an Antec 650W trio, although my ram needs to be updated, and XP Media.

of particular interest to me is how this mobo is for overclocking as I would like to try speeding things up (no prior experience with o/c, do have an hr-01+)

Comments appreciated,
Thanks

I have gone the other way for my friend:
AMD as its cheaper for the best performance.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813128081

a $90 board with 5 stars

AMD Athlon 5600+

$103

So for $200 - you got a good overclockable chip and decent board.

-is a better chippy - AMD 6000+ = its only $113
