Mind taking a look at this comp? :p

Postby AMDDDA » Mon Jun 02, 2008 4:32 pm

Alright, so I got enough $ and upgraded a lot of my parts, but now I need to know if there is anything that will bottleneck me.

I can run FS9 with full sliders on everything except traffic (40%, haven't tested higher), and get 30 FPS minimum.

8600 GTS
Q6600 <--- not OC'd, but the Mobo won't let me, *cough* DELL *cough*
3 Gigs of DDR2 RAM
450 Gig hard drive
a Dell Mobo for a Vostro 400 (Mom got a new comp, so I got her old parts)
WinXP pro 32 bit
And 2 fans that I got from FRY's that can cool the 8600 GTS when I OC it.

Thanks,

Alex

Looks good but that Q6600 isn't doing anything in FS9. FS9 doesn't "use" all 4 cores. Instead it uses a 25% load on each. You would do better in FSX SP2.

It looks very nice to me... :)...!

You don't mention wanting to change to FSX, so it looks perfect for running FS9, with no problems at all...... :)...!

Enjoy it!... [smiley=thumbsup.gif]...!

Very nice computer for FS9. You'll be very pleased. And the Quad Coe will be good in other applicatons like Photo and video editing software.

Alright, I have noticed some others that are getting very nice screens with what I believe are lower specs than my comp on FSX.

I have FSX, as I tried it a few times, and I am wondering now if I should install it again or if it'll just clog up the hard drive.

Hmm, well my only two two cents (four cents are):

You shouldn't need 3gb RAM. I use 2gb on FSX on Vista and I use up to and around 70% of that tops.

The quad core will not be fully utalised, so either use a program which will use the cores better (Like FSX, and Vista makes better use of cores too) or get a better but dual core CPU to keep the load okay.

The 8600GTS is the graphics card I own- it is fairly good, and will run FS9 on full spec no problem. If you plan to go to FSX, then try and get the 8800GT now. It is

I her comp came with 2 gigs and I put in my 1 gig o' RAM =P.

Ok, so I DL'd SP 1 and SP 2.

I'm going to work at my Dad's office this summer, and I hope to get a 8800 GT, =).

Thanks guys, =P.

I'll stick with FS9 for now, as FSX doesn't look perfect for me right now, maybe when I upgrade to a 8800.
