Flashing Screens

Postby richardd43 » Fri Apr 18, 2008 12:10 am

I currently have 2 3870s installed in my computer. Within the last two weeks I have developed a problem with the screens alternately flashing. When they stop and resume working I have to reset the settings for my dual monitors.

Because I use Ultramon to control my screen settings, I uninstalled it thinking that might help.

No luck so I unloaded CAT 8.3 and loaded the 8.4 drivers which also did not help.

This is a fairly new Vista install with no apps other than Office installed.

I can't remember for sure but am thinking the problem might have started after the SP1 upgrade.

Was wondering if anyone else has had similar problems and if so what was the fix.

Before I do another format and install I am going to pull the ATI cards and put my 8800 back in and see if I still have the problem.

Just tried XP and it does the same thing

I had a similar problem.

The fix was apparently to go into the Graphics Card Control Panel (CCC for ATi)

Then, configure it so that it knows you are running through 2 monitors.

Are ATI drivers working with Vista now? For a while they werent....

But try it. It might work.

As far as I know they don't.

After a bunch of troubleshooting I finally Installed my 8800GTS with appropriate drivers. Will give it a couple of days to see if the problem comes back.

If the problem does not come back I will reformat when I get my new CPU and reinstall the ATI cards.

If the problem exists after a reformat I will return the cards and MB to the store and have everything checked.

I have a 3 year instant replacement warranty on all the parts so am not to worried about it.
