What are the benefits of the current 9 series over the 8 series? Their specs look fairly close and comparable, but is it that it uses DDR3?

How about you sell 4Gb of your DDR3 and give the $700 or more you earn to me.

The Geforce 9, so far, is pretty much a rehashed Geforce 8 - they are built on new manufacturing process so you can have more power efficiancy - which means higher clocks. Also they are PCI-E 2.0. That's about all the changes I can name.

Simple answer that the new 9 cards are not worth it. Wait a couple months for the true next gen group of new tech. PCI 2.0 can be backwards compatible so use the 8800s now until the true advancement.

If you're upgrading now the 8800GTS 512 and 8800GT are worthy of consideration. And yes, they use the same core as the 9800.

I heard that the 9800 cards have better memory chips on them that allow for higher memory clocks.  Thats why the 9800GTX has higher memory clocks than the 8800GTS. Other than that they are the same card with a different Printed circut board that allows all around higher clocks.  Is it worth the purchase?  probably not.

The tough part comes in when you have the EVGA version and are wondering if you should use your step up or not.

Yeah, 9800s aren't that good. Wait for the 9900s. It'll have a different core and hopefully will be quite a bit better. From what I've heard, it's supposed to be good.

isn't the maximus extreme Crossfire only? i really wanted the SLI version of that board... if it is SLI ready, tell me where you got it because i want one too  :o

btw, i've read the specs for the geforce 9 series, and the 9800 model is pretty much on par with the 8800GTX with some specs actually being LOWER... so thanks, but no thanks nVidia  ::) i'll keep my 8800GTX for now

Cheers
