better memory?

Postby RickG » Fri Feb 15, 2008 12:58 pm

Hi all. I was talking to my local pc-fixer guy and he suggested some of this DDR2 (i think) ram for my unit saying it would be faster. Is that a simple re and re, or are there other factors to contend with? FSX normally runs fairly well, but of course I'm always wanting more, lol.

You can only use DDR with that set up Rick, as socket 939 doesn't support DDR2, socket AM2 chips use it though.
Does your PC guy know your specs? If he does, sack him  ;D  ;D

bummer.  Thanks tho CD. He actually mentioned lots of other things too --better mobo, something about a pci express (?) card etc, etc but I was just wondering if it was a simple plan---apparently not, huh?  Anyway, Thanks.  Rick

PCI-e and ddr2 are really the way to go,DDR2 is really the standard when it comes to memory. DDR3 has already come out and will be dropping in price sooner or later. Same thing with AGP, PCI, PCI-e and now even PCI-e 2.0. If you got ddr2 and a good pci-e card you'll wonder why you didn't a year ago lol.

Upgrading your 3500+ to a dual core 939 will be worthwhile. My two systems are 939 X2, did have a 3700+ and changed that to a x2.
