RAM question

Postby Celtman » Thu Sep 13, 2007 10:01 am

Hi,

The RAM in my pc is rated at PC6400 (800Mhz), but shows in CPU-Z as 400MHz. Is this normal (e.g. 2 cycles of 400Mhz = 800Mhz, like my graphics card)?

Any help appreciated!

Regards,

From an article in Micro Mart today:

DDR2 Module specifications
Standard Name - DDR2-800
Memory clock - 200MHz
Time between signals - 5ns
I/O bus clock - 400MHz
Data transfers per second - 800 million
Module name - PC2-6400
Peak transfer rate - 6.4 GB/s

It also gives the above info for DDR & DDR3, all speeds. Quite an interesting read.

Back in the days of SDR ram if your mem clock was 100 then yor ram ran at 100Mhz
now with DDR(double data rate) ram(includes DDR2 DDR3 ect) if your mem clock is at 100 then your ram runs at 200Mhz

400Mhz = 800Mhz,
