Thinking of an upgrade..

Postby kingmarktheaviator » Tue Aug 07, 2007 3:38 pm

Here is a rare stray into the Hardware part of SimV for me...
I have arrived at the conclusion that I need a new GFX card, and with me not wanting to mess up my precious computer, I have decided to ask for opinions etc.
I have searched through this forum before posting, and each computer being individual, I thought it would be best to get some advice from here.

To be honest, without changing your PSU, the best you can do with that system is ithor a X1650 Pro from ATi or a 7600GT from nVidia. A 7900 or X19X0 card would draw too much power from that supply and effectively fry it, or it just wouldn't boot after the upgrade at all.

My suggestion would be to get a ATi Radeon X1950 XT for a card, and save some more and buy a 600W PSU along with it. Thermaltake, PC Power and Cooling, and Earnmax are all good names.

Cheers

Excellent, the X1950 is what I have been looking at, I have used ATI cards for years and never had a problem with them.
Thanks for the good advice mate, I'll see what sort of prices I can get a 600W PSU for.
Thanks again for the advice  :)
