PRINTERS GALORE! ...

Postby Jimbo » Tue Jul 24, 2007 1:58 pm

Hey up Chaps.

Its not VERY often something tends to break on me, e.g a computer or even a peripheral. But my printer, put plainly is been a real arsehole. Its an HP PSC 1610

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/prod ... g=en&cc=uk

It DID do well, Very well.. Until thats when, every time i scanned something it was just a black screen with no sign of the original inserted material on the scan, every time i print in black it spurts out faded black, and every time i copy something, i get a big sheet of A4 paper out in full black, like the scanning. I have noticed that the Scanner light is still active, but looks a bit buggered!

Now i face the problem and hassle of emailing HP, them telling me everything i already know, and then getting it sent off and getting it back 3 months later, only to be billed. The final question, is the printer buggered it? or is there anything i can do to revitalise the big lump of **** in the mean time?

There is ONE brightside though..

------

IF i was to purchase a new ALL IN ONE multifunction printer, i'm looking for a ENERYGY/COST efficient printer, NOT so pricy, and my biggest fear is expensive INK cartridges. HP ones are expensive and last 5mins in my house! I basically want a GOOD, SOLID multifunction printer, which i can purchase CHEAP ink Cartridges For.

Many thanks.

Bloody printers!

Two REALLY dumb questions (plus one semi-intelligent one) Jimbo but have you changed the cartridge recently? Uninstalled/re-installed the drivers lately?
Also have you added any new software that might need to use the printer?

Not Dumb at all.. The cartridges are fine.. I've had a nosy and they appear sound. I HAVE re-installed windows, BUT i was experiencing this problem before. Its one of them stand-alone all in ones, it lets you scan things etc. when the computer is switched off.

Bloody thing!

HP drivers can be a nightmare

make sure you have the most recent ones from their website and check the list to make sure there is not a update of some type that addresses issues.

Uninstalling can also be a pain

Some HP priniters DO NOT WANT TO BE PLUGGED IN before the drivers are installed. Make SURE you check the install instructions. The drivers usually have a 'walk-through' that will giude you through the process, but I do know some HP models want the drivers installed BEFORE the printer gets plugged into the tower

I Installed everything in ORDER as followed, and it was fine. It works fine, except the scanner "Thing" with the light on it [how dumb to i sound] is half working, and all i get is a big black screen instead of WHAT i wanted to be scanned. Printing is a nightmare too.

I'm thinking of getting a laser jet printer, much cheaper and more reliable ive heard.

I'm stuck on what to buy.

I will be starting uni soon, and i need something which is going to be cost effective, because i know the thing i've got now..well..

Mind you, i could even get this one fixed...

Personally I am a big fan of these three from HP

Photosmart C4280
OfficeJet J5700
OfficeJet L7580

The first two use the HP 75/76 cartridges which when buying the high capacity versions actually save you quite a bit. The third uses the 88 cartridges which give you laser capacity, and laser cost effectiveness.
