memory speed question

Postby wealthysoup » Thu Jun 07, 2007 5:24 am

ive got two 512mb sticks of ddr memory in my system running in a 1:1 ratio with my FSB (200 mhz fsb)

on the box the memory came in it says 512mb 333mhz DDR pc2700 DIMM CL2.5

does this mean that my memory is actually underclocked from 333mhz to 200mhz? and i should actually change the fsb to memory ratio to around 1.5?

thanks

p.s. manufacturer is kingston ;)

Well, there's got to be a BIOS setting that lets you "customise" Ram frequencies.

But I can't walk you through, since I don't know what BIOS you have.

You can download CPUZ and see what your mrmory is actually doing.

On the face of it, it does appear as if the memory is actually 200mhz or 400mhz DDR, an overclock for those sticks, PC3200 is what you should have (your signature lol) but if the PC2700 is working without error, well, nuff said.

ahh ive got confused now, my sigs a mistake (i think ;))

although everest is saying the real clock on my memory is 158mhz with an effective clock of 316 mhz

so im guessing its running at 316 instead of 333mhz but im not sure because im really confused now :(

That would be a logical assumption if you trust everest, which I do. Perhaps you have some throttling software enabled and it's slowed down at the time everest read the bus speeds.
