PSU

Postby Scorpiоn » Thu Jun 07, 2007 12:10 pm

I'm having trouble with what PSU to buy.

Final specs will be:
  • Q6600
  • 965P-DS3P
  • 2GB DDR2 800
  • 2900 XT
  • 3-5 hard drives
  • 4 optical

Online wattage calculators suggest 800w.

I've been trying to find good PSUs, and the PCP&C 750w looks good, the 12v rail is unlike any I've seen (60A).

You would be nuts for going 965 or 975x. The P35 will give you support for the 45nm Intel Processors coming out in Q4. You can not upgrade the processor on the 965 or 975x chipset and stuck at core2. Early reports put that board at rock stable and it clocks like an animal and I can confirm the reports are true.

The P35 chipset gives you native 1333 support for the Conroe which 965 wont give you that, at all. Just by setting the bootstrap to 333Mhz in the BIOS you kick most overclocks from other boards right out the window.

I have had one since April and its by far the most stable and best overclocking board I have ever used (except another one I can not discuss right now

Video card: I will leave that up to you but the 2900XT 1GB GDDR4 will be out in about a week or so. I would wait for the reports before buying. The HD2900 needs 1GB of memory to make it shine. I have a HD2900XTX 1GB for testing but it is the 55nm product and not the one being released in the next week or so. The HD2900xt suffers from lack of memory (512 only).

Holy  Sh*t dude. 55nm. DAMN! Can you get me one? Just for erm. "speculative" discussion, how much power do you 'think' it will use?
