Trouble with graphics...

Alright, here's the problem. I have an ATI Radeon 9550 that is not responding to any settings I make on it. I'm talking about things like anti-aliasing, mip-mapping etc. Whenever I make a setting, there seems to be no effect taking place. This started happening some days after I had updated the drivers due to another problem. The strange thing is that sometimes it does work, but for the majority the card just seems to be ignoring my settings. I'm using the ATI Catalyst Conrol Centre to make settings as there doesn't seem to be anywhere else that allows me to change the settings, not even the Display properties/Advanced window. I've already contacted ATI about the issue, but I just keep getting told to re-install the drivers which I have done 'till I'm blue in the face. Is the card on it's way out? By the way, replacing it is not an option unfortunately, (paranoid/computer illiterate parents). Any ideas? My system specs are in my sig. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried to roll back the drivers to a older version that worked?

The only other drivers I had installed before the current ones gave me problems aswell, (Blue screen crashes at random times). I have tried other versions which were newer than my previous drivers, but i just get the same problem...
