HELP - DISASTROUS FRAMERATE - AMD64 4200+ x2

Postby phlip1260 » Sun Feb 11, 2007 3:28 am

Good morning,

I know that the topic has been posted many times, but  :(
With my config I'm trying to fly ... but it's not easy. Framerate is between 8-15 max (details low) IN A SMALL AIRPORT LOST NOWHERE. It take a very long time to charge the flight (even if the details are at the lowest)
I'm asking myself for two reasons : could it be the RAM (I didn't check with mem86) or the HARDDISK??
My brother who has a lower config' than me is flying much more better (25-30 with the same graphic details)

My config :
:-[
AMD64 4200+ x2
7600gt - pc-express
1go ram PC4200 (533)
HD 80gg /133

my brother config'
AMD64 3500+
7600gt AGP
1go ram PC4200

Thanks to all of you
A crazy swiss flyer

I got a GB of RAM, and though it could be alot better, I can do just fine.

If the loading times are long, try defragging the hard disk.
Should also help your frame rate.

1 Gb is fine as long as you fly slowly and don't change zone too often.
Once you begin to fly faster, or change the place you're flying in too often, you quickly fill your RAM, and start using your virtual memory on the hardrive, leading to numerous disk accesses for loading scenery.

In my case, for example, those disk accesses are catastrophic for the performance because I have IDE drives.

However, it is interesting to read the post from another user (sorry, forgot the name :P ) reporting a dramatic increase in performance while using a flashdrive for virtual memory, instead of normal hardrives. This is one of the new functionnalities offered by Vista.

Phillip If you find out what the problem is can you post the solution here.

You and I have very similar specs (although I do have 3gb RAM) and I also suffer from pretty low frame rates, despite applying all the tweaks and tips (everything from replacement textures to fiber fractions and dynamic scenery object densities).

Having exhausted all these tweaks (yes Daube I really have

I have the exact same processor, but I have 2 gigs ram and a 7900 GT.  First, you should be able to get by on FULL ground settings, or near full anyway (sliders 4/5ths the way up)  The major problem is the autogen, I personally have it turned off entirely and get 20+ FPS in country and usually 11+ at major airports (also depending on traffic)   Look at the FAQ for some CFG tweaks and you'll be good to go.

Also your processor is a duel core, FSX doesn't use them correctly but there is a fix, sorda... http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1157795837/0#0 Check that link inside there is a duel core fix for AMD, it should help a little.

Good Luck!

I am not a big time techy.... but with some of the Duel CPUs, with FSX not using the second CPU at all or very little... how does each of the processer.. if they were by themselves stack up to those of us that have single processers... ie your brothers single processer is something like 2.20ghz...  what is a single processer on your board rated at?

If you have any more memory slots, try and upgrade to 2GB ram. :)

dont know why this worked for me but i got FSX around november(?) and around new years my pc crashed. i had to re-install windows and clean out the hard drive cause everything got corrupted. i lost everything. Now before the "Great Crash of 07" (lol) i was able to run FSX at about low to medium low settings, after re-instaling windows i got about 5-10 fps better with settings around medium low- medium high

I only have a amd 64 3500 and I get smooth fps in all areas usually 15-30.  My dads computer is completely the oposite and his comp is similar execpt for the ram and hard drives.  I have 2 raptor SATA 10k rpm HD's raid 0 and mushkin black lvl2 ram that runs at a really low latency.  My settings are pretty high with the exception of autogen scenery which is at normal and sparse.  When I fly out in the country I can usually max everything out except autogen and fly at 1.5 mach and everything loads smoothly.  You might want to try and benchmark your computer at www.futuremark.com and then compare your score with computers that have the same specs that will give you an idea if your system is performing as it should.  I was able to bump up my score 400 points to 2600 by setting up my bios properly and O/C my vid card slightly.

Hey, with a 6800 GT, normally you should get at least 20 FPS on that second shot... or is it the light bloom maybe ? Light Bloom kills my 6800 GT, 5 to 7 FPS lost every time I try to enable it...

Even though this has nothing to do with this, DONTREADMYUSERNAME I have 2 things to say to you.
1: Red Sox rule.
2: Way to go. You spelled Red Sox wrong. (you spelled it soxs)
