A challenge....

Postby Sir_Crashalot » Fri Feb 02, 2007 10:39 am

Hello,

I have a challenge for you. Might be a big one, might be a small one, I don't know. Here is my problem. I have a CH Products yoke. This yoke works perfectly. But sometimes Windows XP will give me (at start up) the message that one of my USB devices (the yoke) is malfunctioning and will not work. This happens every now and then. Taking out the USB plug and putting it back sometimes work, sometimes not. When I check the Joystick setting it doesn't show up. Without doing anything it can be back the next day when I plug it back in.

My system specs:

Windows XP PRO SP 2
3.06 Ghz P4
2 GB DDR2
Nvidia 7800GS 256 Mb
2x 40Gb Maxtor HDD

Does anybody have any idea what might cause this problem? I contacted CH Products about this and they never heard of this. Since it is USB (plug and play) I don't need to install any drivers.

Thanks in advance,

Crash ;)

I believe the technical term is:

"An accidental yank side ways on a USB port."

u decide if thats wat happened, but this happened once with my Saitek X45.  I have the joystick attached to my chair, which is pretty cool, and one time i got out of my chair to the right (the wrong side) and that USB port was screwed.

now, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt due to the now extremely loose conections in it.

if that aint the problem, then i hav no other clues...

Thanks for the response Str1ker. Problem is that I have 4 USB ports and it happens on all four of them. Mind that it only happens to the yoke, not my other USB devices. I've tested the yoke on a different PC and it works instantly.

The drivers that come with the yoke on a cd will install. After that the Found new hardware wizard comes up. Yippie! It starts installing my new device, so far so good. But oh, oh, it didn't install it as a USB device. It installed as a CH Product. It is still not working. Damn. Well, I give up. I just ordered myself a brand new Saitek X-52 again (after selling my old one). Never had any problems with that one.
