brand new x1950pro installation problem

Postby flyingbartdude. » Mon Dec 25, 2006 11:12 am

Hi Guys Santa has been kind this year and has given me a new x1950pro Radeon graphics card the problem is I have tried everything to install the drivers to no avail. I keep getting a message saying"Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup". So I have un-installed the display drivers gone into safe mode thinking this would use the VGA drivers and then tried to install the software to no avail. Then I have gone back into safe mode and have tried booting in VGA mode but still  it will not let me install. Can anybody give me some help here as I am very dishearted at the momment and cannot believe what such an headache this is. I have downloaded the latest drivers from ATI but still it doesnt help.
Merry Christmas to you all

According to ATI's website, you need to install the card first. After you install the card, boot up and it SHOULD be using generic VGA drivers. Then you can run your ATI software to install drivers. However, more than likely there are already newer drivers for you card, so I would suggest going to the link I provide below and install by these directions.

It's basically the same thing other than they have you register your product and then download the latest drivers for your card.

Go here and follow ATI's instructions.  http://support.ati.com/ics/support/default.asp?deptID=894

Good luck.

The answer to your problems is in the ATI FAQs ..... I had the same problem with my X1900 .... there are several steps that need to be acomplished before the drivers will install properly.

Hi Guys and merry christmas though it aint merry here I have done all of the above and have looked at the steps taken through the FAQ and cleaned the temp files cleared everything of the computer that was to do with ATI re-booted installed the latest software for the x1950pro and it goes through all the process windows logo testing warning me I click continue anyway but after it downloads the seconday series drivers it stops and comes up with "Try to set up you display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup." This is absoloutely driving me bonkers there is no reason why I think that the software will not load apart from this bloomin VGA driver business I do not understand at all???????????????? :-/

Once you plug in your new card, just direct it to Generic VGA drivers. These are just common drivers that will get you a display on your monitor. After you do this, then you might be able to install the drivers from ATI.

Sometimes getting drivers to install for new cards can be a bugger.

Good luck.

right click desk top, click properties, click settings, click advanced, click monitor, click properties, click update driver and make shure your connected to the net, see if that helps.

I've just got a x1950 512mb and had trouble with it too.

Thanks for your info guys I ended up formatting my drive and starting a fresh install a bit of a ball ache but it works. Waspiflab thanks for the advise the problem I have with what you've said is I have a syncmaster 930bf monitor and for some reason since ive put the new radeon card in I cannot install the drivers for the monitor Ive even tried from samsung with the latest driver but no joy so the monitor properties are default I aint got nothing to play with. My other problem now is I have a seperate drive which I have to do the same as above but I cannot afford to re-format this drive so Im a bit stuck at the minute.
