Video Cards (hurrah....)

Postby Flt.Lt.Andrew » Fri Dec 22, 2006 3:33 am

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to video cards, and I've been having some problems of late.

Firstly, I rebooted my computer earlier this year which, as you know, resets everything. However after that, I was not able to play any games at all, including FS (   ). Now, I know there is a video card physically inside the machine- but I am not sure of what model it is (all I know is that its an ATi Radeon).

Hence,

a) How does one find out what kind of card it is? (I'm using a Dell Dimension 8400, fyi)

b) Would the problem be physical, i.e the card itself falling out of it's socket, or would all i need to do is update the drivers (which is dependent on me working out which card it is)?

To find out what card it is, go:

Start--->run--->dxdiag---->display

Tell use the Chip Type found on that page.

As for the problem, I doubt the drivers are at fault and the card can't fall out of its socket. I would atleast think back and ask yourself if you've made any configuration changes, and undo them. You can try updating drivers, though, I doubt that will do much.

What happens when you try and play a game?
