Good Step?

Ok here's what i want to do.

I'm really looking into a Conroe, and i started to save up for a E6700 and a sufficient MoBo, but should i do this or wait for the next gen of AMD?

AMD's next step will be 4x4, which is a true quad core single die CPU.

Intel's next step will be Bloomsfield, which is... you guessed it... a true quad core single die CPU.

Intel have Kentsfield out at the moment, which is a 2x2 Core MCM (ie. not a true quad core).

If you go the Conroe route, the E6700 is not worth it. Go for the E6600, they clock 3.2Ghz and higher with a good motherboard and RAM. The only thing you're paying for with the E6700 is the higher multiplier (10x instead of 9x).

If it was me, I'd wait for both companies' true quad core processors to be out, before comparing them and then making a decision.

An SM 2.0 score of 1668 and SM 3.0 score of 1801 is slightly slower than a 7900GS.
