91.47 sucks ...

Postby Phiz » Fri Oct 13, 2006 8:08 am

...at least, mine does. When I bought a new rig a year ago, I installed the 77.77 drivers: they've served me very well, and I'm a firm believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." But with FSX looming, I thought perhaps I'd better follow the so-often offered advice to keep up with the latest drivers, and installed 91.47. I tried it first in the FSX demo, and it appeared to work fine. Then I switched to Fs9 - and disaster! Whenever I take any action - change scene, time, weather, aircraft, etc - I get parallel bars flashing across the screen, like a duff TV set. Scenery building has gone to pot: very slow, erratic, long pauses, airfields show as white areas before materialising. Plus stutters and jerks I've never had before.

So I wonder whether anyone else has had these problems, and whether they solved them?  The new Nvidia control panel is pretty complicated: perhaps the solution lies there?

Failing that - can anyone recommend a more update driver than 77.77 which is stable?  Or would I really gain any benefit from changing it, anyway?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

...I've gone from my original CD drivers to 77.77 drivers, and I am now running 84.21, which seem to be OK.

I have downloaded the latest 91.47 drivers, but like you, I'm in no hurry to install them for the same reasons.

Many times in the past I have found that I have had to remove a set of drivers and go back to much earlier versions to prevent a multitude of problems occurring.....;)...

As you say "Newer is not always better"...;)...!

Personally, I'm a firm believer of the old saying: "if it's not broke, don't try to fix it, least you break it for real", and I never had to repent my ways.

Reinstall your old drivers (if you still have them) or try to find them again on the net. ;)

Most times, I have found that the original drivers on the CD supplied with the Graphics card, if not the most up-to-date, are at least the most stable... ;)... ;D...!

Yup, I'm also running 70s drivers-anything in the 90s and FS9 will flip out.

Doesn't it really depend on what your card is ? Mines is an XFX 7600 GT XXX edition Nvidia card, and my stable drivers are 91.31.

I always update my drivers.... at first that didnt seem to work with my 6200 but.... as you know it was a knocked down locked up 6600 so it wouldnt clock right and all, plus I wasnt INSTALLING the driver propperly, uninstall old drivers from the add/remove hardware panel if you dont already, then reboot, turn off all Virus software and such, install, reboot again, reset the display you want to run at, and it should be fixed.... Most times I find its probably mis installed drivers!

Just a thougt!, Cheers, Gunny

Tis true for my 7800 GT CO's anything but the 84.21 will make FS9 crap.
But for newer games and sims the 91.47 is a real nice and stable driver.

I upgraded from 84.26 to 91.47 drivers and everything is fine except the drivers menu is a bit buggy. I think the 91.47 drivers are better because in FS9 there is less flickering when using AA.

Yea, thats really an old problem. The 6X series cards don't want to function properly with the 9x series drivers for some reason. If you've got a 7X series card, your golden, but its the older cards with drivers specifically for the G70 and G71 cores that tend to flip out.
