I used to hate the iPod, and iTunes, but now they are a huge part in my life. My problem with the iPod was their rep of dead batteries or clicking hard drives. Now many of these problems have been fixed and I was convinced to buy one. I got a good deal on a 60GB off eBay, so I bought it, and now use it as not only a media player, but a extirnal hard drive.
The other thing that I ask alot of people is "what other hard drive based player can hold as much as the iPod?" Yes the Creative Zen Micro is a better deal than the iPod Nano, however the Zen Video only holds 20GB, and I have yet to find another company building a player that holds more than 30GB. Apple, however, has 1, 4, 5 ,8, 30, 60 and 80GB players all moderately priced.
Yes they are a fad, yes they are a "label" but seriously if you have a crapload of music (say like my father who has a 56.78GB library) then the pricetag is worth it.
Cheers
