The card is busted.

I personally never had a case where artifacts were caused by incorrect software settings. Every single time I had artifacts the card was broken.

On the positive side you could use this as an excuse to buy a faster card.

Happens to me all the time :D. My Dell supplies drivers artifacted like crazy in fs9. Updated to drivers 5.12 which solved the problem.  Upgraded to 6.4, no problem. Then 6.5 gave me problems again.

Strange since I played FEAR for 7 hours straight and it was stable.

"artifact", what does it refers to in fs9 world Foz?, if more than just lines on the screen, we may get it too one day!,  the dictionary says:

"A man-made object taken as a whole"

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600 95W 2.4GHz,

I never did figure out exactly what "Artifacts" meant with reference to glitches on graphics card displays...!

I always assumed it was referring either to a bloke named Arti Fact, or discussion on little known facts about "Arties"...:)...!

...either way, it makes no sense to me...;)...!

I know you've "ruled out" overheating, and I've never seen that particular "artifact" from my card (nVidia GeForce 5700LE), but last time I had any kind of artifacts, physically cleaning the graphics card (especially the little cage around the cooling fan) did the trick.
Just a thought, before you declare this one "dead".

You too have a collection of old faster cards? Well, I'm not alone then. ;D

On a different note, my new ASL gefo 6600GT AGP has the core at 500 and the mem at 900 and I'm not having problems.

Should I tune up at least the memory? What do you people suggest? I like to have the best from my hardware.

As for being limited to AGP... you are not alone either. It will be a laughing matter to see how FSX runs on my rig.

I am part of a italian site of FS payware products reviews, so I MUST install FSX as soon as it will be out. I'll receive a free copy of FSX too, just for this duty. Shame they are not so ready to hand me the hardware to make FSX work well. :(

...remaining with FS9 for a while to simulfly for real...

Hi Ash...!

My BFG 6600GT OC 128 Mb card came ready overclocked by "overclockers.co.uk" to 525 MHz for the core, and 1050 for the Memory.
It has worked fine for the past 12 months or so, it's just now that it's started playing up...
I will probably have to reduce the speeds to "standard" like yours to cure the faults..!
Otherwise, its a FAB card...;D...!

(I don't need any more cardboard boxes in my spare bedroom)... :o...!

Cheers all...!

FAB??

What's that?

Anyway, I've brought the memory to wotk at 1Ghz and right now (it's another PC) have Nalu (patched, because I'm a pervert) on it to swim about and to let me know if there's some problem with me using the Nvidia suggested speeds (500-1000) on that card.

Socket A rules indeed, but it's getting old... :(

...happens to all the hardware... :-/

Oh well. Later.

Well, mine doesn't want to keep the gigahertz under the memory point of view. >:(

Nalu is all right, but in FS this setting after a while sends the sim in error end it terminates itself.

The automatic find optimal speed function gives me a mem max speed of 945 and a core max speed of 525, but really, I've no intention to to make a this little overclock.

Or is it good, or or better for it to remain default.

Pity though. :(

At the moment I've left the Core speed overclocked at 525 but reduced the Memory speed to 1027...(or even less...1000) to cure the artifact problem....
...I'll see how it goes for a while... ;)...!

If it's still under warranty (2 years?) RMA the card and get yerself a new one Fozzer. My Leadtek 6600GT  handles 550/1100 (but not much more) and it's just a standard 6600GT.

If it's not under warranty just enjoy it at the slightly reduced O/clock.   ;)

I'm not so sure anymore if my new videocard can hold the gigahertz on the memory or not. I've come to discover that my PC power adapter is underpowered for the new videocard summed to all the preexisting hardware, and it all screws with my FS something ugly, making it crash. :(

Have already called for help and a new, more powerful one should be inside the case of my PC by the half of next week. Once it will be here, I'll try again overclocking... heck, I'll try again simulflying. ::)

For now I can barely use the simulator at all, so much I'm thinking to reinstall the old videocard in wait of the new power adapter. :-/
