So I'm upgrading my computer...

Postby Lazerbeak » Mon Aug 14, 2006 2:28 pm

Yeah, it's me again, asking for more recommendations. I really hate having to ask for help on everything, but I'm just a total tool when it comes to computers, and I'd rather let people who know what they're doing guide me through this.

Right then. Like the title says, I'm planning to upgrade my new system. When I got it, it totally solved my space and RAM problems, but now I need to take the next step.

I recieved great recommendations on graphics cards, and I've decided to splurge a bit and go for a BFG GeForce 7800GS (as I'm still rockin' AGP). But, before I go shopping, I'm wondering if there's anything else I should add to my list. My specs are as follows:

Dell Dimension 4600
-2GB of RAM
-NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (soon to be replaced)
-Pentium 4 (2.80GHz)
Everything else is pretty much stock.

I'm shooting for a computer that will run FS at maxed (or close to maxed) settings and still attain a liveable FPS, and also run other demanding games at decent settings/performance. I'll appreciate any and all recommendations. Also, if any more information about my rig is needed, feel free to ask.

I'm guessing you have a 478 system, so your processer options are limited. But if you can find it, a 3.2 or 3.4Ghz Northwood should do you great.

You may want to watch your power supply as you upgrade. Is the PSU Dell proprietary or standard ATX?
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+
Gigabyte GA-M55SLI-S4
Corsair XMS 2 x 512MB DDR2-800
Sapphire X1950XT
Creative X-Fi XtremeMusic
Western Digital WD2500KS
