I always enjoy reading these forums and picking up little tidbits of info but statements like that are ridiculous. I would assume you do not own a 7950 or have never used a computer that has one.

I have a 7800, a 7900 and a 7950 and am quite impressed by the 7950.

I would not go so far as to say it is the best on the market as I have not used any of the latest ATI products.

But the 7950 being ridiculous, WRONG.

I don't own a Ferrari but I do not consider them ridiculous just because I can't afford one. My Chevy gets me where I want to go but I really would like to own the Ferrari.

hmmmm... I happen to be electrical engineer has been around the block more than twice.

The reason I made the "ridiculous" statement was to put what I was saying in relative perspective based on the hardware available today, the VISTA operating system, the new version of Flight Simulator and the hardware will be soon coming available that will be required to in order to have the full FS2006 experience.

I will drop 10 grand on a tower and have in the past. Unlike myself, most people on this site do not have the economic resources to go out and spend 2, 3 or 5 thousand dollars on toys and when they make a high number purchase they are stuck with it for several years or more.

If someone is going to ask me what are the best hardware choices for a VISTA and FSX I am going to give them all the options and I will not hold anything back or be bias just because I may, or may not, own the card or processor currently or in the past.

My advice to those who wish to build for the future (right now) is to wait, quite simply because a 7950 is in my opinion (and that is what forums are about

I do agree that any video cards now available are a bad buy with Vista and FSX in mind.

What I took offence to was the open statement that the 7950 was a ridiculous board.

The exact statement in the VISTA and FSX context was:

You guys have to learn how this game is played... they will release FSX and VISTA well before the hardware that will run it best hits the market.. the name of the game is CLEAR THE OLD STOCK OUT. They want you to buy the 7900GTX 512's and those rediculous 7950's up...

I stand by it... it is rediculous if one is buying a 7950 for a VISTA and FSX purchase. The card is overpriced for the performance increase, it is under developed for driver support in Quad SLI and they lack what it takes to be worth the cost to performance ratio over a 7900 GTX 512 for use in FSX... and FS9 in my opinion.

Assuming the sim and computer are set up correctly, any resources over 32 frames in FS9 is being used by the sim for other areas and calculations and if a sim is set up correctly 30-32 frames will be just as smooth and just as impressive as 40+ under all conditions.

The 7950 cards were designed to be marketed to the same people who would probably consider buying a Ferrari. It serves no complete and useful function past FS9. Withthe current driver issues and quad SLI problems, they even lack what I would call worthwhile FS9 support.
