Just got the 30Gig Video Ipod, and it is looking pretty nice right now, to my left looking really sleek...

... too bad it takes four hours to charge....  :P  ;D

I would let it charge a good 24 hours before first using it. After then you can abuse the batteries. ;)

They sure do look great but their battery life isn't all that great
The iPod's battery life is a mere 18 months (not sure about the video one though) and even then, Apple support aren't very helpful. It will cost around $100 just for them to replace it. Some even suggest simply buying a new one instead.
There are however numerous tuorials on how to power it from an external battery pack and thus saving your iPod's battery life.

I've had my Ipod two years now and the batteries are still going. Granted it hasn't been constant usage.

Once the batteries gone you pay

Just charge the iPod whenever you're at home and don't use it, so i'd say get a adapter ;)

I dunno whether they've fixed this but I believe some of the external battery packs for iPod had a nasty habit of getting so hot that they actually burned. Personally the onboard battery has always suited me. It is a bit short though. However the battery life on the new iPods is at least twice what mine is.
