XP won't install on my new SATA2 drive

Postby congo » Thu Jun 29, 2006 11:08 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to install XP on a new 250gb WD SATA2 drive.
Bios is correct as far as I can tell.

System: a8n-sli, 3700+, 1gb ram

During OS install WinXPpro SP2 gets as far as the first re-boot and then says cant find a valid OS upon reboot.

I also got a message once like "Windows cannot be installed because of a hardware configuration problem.

I installed fine on my RAID array, and also just tested it on an old 80gb Seagate drive, no problems, but I may have missed something you think?

Of course I've tried everything I can think of for the past 6 hours, but still no go.

Any ideas?

I solved it after over 12 hrs of my precious time thanks to an obsure post in the Western Digital support forums.

I changed the drive's Access Mode in bios from [AUTO] to [LARGE]

and Bob could be yer uncle, away she went, XP installed fine from that point on.

That's a day out of my life! :P
